Ha! And I can’t believe that the last post on this blog was about how I would try to be posting stuff that was unrelated to babies or cuteness. Here is the real truth to new parents: There is no escaping the cuteness. It is all-consuming. Case in point, this video.  Here’s the story behind this one: When I was feeding Ari earlier this week, I kept making chewing motions with my mouth to show her that she should take a bite and try some food. Ever since then, we’ve noticed that she chews her food exactly like I showed her. Watch…

Hey, there’s a baby now!

Maybe I’ll actually update this blog once in a while. This little creature on my shoulders has taken up nearly all of my time for the past 7 months.

Boy With a Coin

I went to the pub with an old friend from high school tonight. We found out from Facebook that he just moved less than a mile away from me from across the country.  He’s into some pretty good music – a lot of the same stuff that I like. He mentioned a “Northwest Folk” scene that I had just assumed was everywhere else as well.

Anyway, he told me about the video for “Boy With a Coin” by Iron & Wine – a band which I already really enjoy. He told me that I had to go right home and check it out. It’s great! The flamenco dancing is fascinating to watch and the special effects are so subtle that you catch yourself asking whether they really just happened.

Without further adieu, here it is:

Portland, 1946

Broadway, originally uploaded by Montag2k.

I posted a set of photos that I recently scanned. These come from a set of pocket-sized photographs that my parents gave to me for Christmas. My mom purchased them in an antique store in upstate New York in 2006. My best guess for the year that these photographs were taken is 1946, because the movie “The Outlaw” came out in that year.

All of the pictures are from around Portland at the time. Meaning to showcase the city, they are a selection of scenes from Portland Industry, Culture, and Nature. Mt. Hood looks the same as ever. The picture of the Rose Gardens cannot possibly do it justice – color photos would be necessary for that. The Hawthorne Bridge is recognizable in its picture, but the many warehouses along the waterfront have now been replaced by a park.

You can check out the whole set at Flickr.

Hello!

March 11, 2009

So I made a blog.  This is the part where I usually just completely ignore posting to it.  We’ll see how it goes this time.
